I will first have to apologize to 'Designers'. I absolutely have no intention to bad mouth your job. I think you guys create the most creative things, the most beautiful things, so you really have my appreciation.
However, what I am talking about here is how to create a 'Marketing Weapon'.
It is not your fault. It is not even your client's fault to assign the design job to you.
Don't you think it is wildly (I would rather say wildly instead of widely) accepted that a website should be a beautiful design?
I used to think that way too. So I was there. I have spent quite a lot of time and money on trying to come up with something really creative and shocking...well, better make people wow and scream.
And even though I did shock some clients, they felt compelled to come to me with a question: 'how can I make money from your design?'
This question shocked me. The design is SO beautiful, it looks SO professional, shouldn't you be entitiled to be making sales?

The purpose of having a website, is to make money. It might satisfy your ego to show off an eye-shocking design, but it will surely put your head into cold water if you don't make any money from the website.
I have met two kinds of people:
One, they come to me, asking, "Can you show me the sites you have done before, I want to see how good they look?"
Two, they come to me, saying, "If I get enought people to the site, I will make sales, so a good and professional design will do the job."
I can answer the two questions with one sentence: "A good design won't make a money-making website, tons of traffic can be wasted by a non-marketing-sense website."
